Golf is the reason we are at the Fairplay Golf Resort, however there is so much more to keep you busy and entertained. The Spa and Wellness centre is an oasis of pampering and grooming. Numerous treatments and experiences are available.
The gym is well equipped. Other activities also include horse riding, tennis, a beauty salon, hairdresser, bicycle rental, swimming pools, guided cultural and gastronomy tours. There is so much to keep the mind and body stimulated. A week’s stay will flash by in no time!
Arrival
The view was the first thing that struck me when we arrived in the car parking area outside the Hotel Reception. We are located high on a hillside looking over La Janda Valley, a vast, endless plain. Thirty five kilometres away at the other side of the plain is a mountain range, beyond that the beach resort of Tarifa and the Atlantic Ocean. The scale is epic and truly humbling. Immediately I feel that the Fairplay Golf and Spa Resort is going to be the perfect place to unplug and decompress!
The reception team handled our check in with genuine warmth taking the time to help us orientate ourselves within the resort complex.
The Fairplay Golf Resort
The resort is modelled on the classic white villages that are revered across Spain. Ornate fountains, and sculptures are displayed in the interior courtyard. Our suite, Suite 4010, a double deluxe room, is a cracker! The door opens to a large salon. Black marble floors are elegant and add texture to the decor. On the dining table a welcome note and complimentary bottle of cava. Extreme thoughtfulness from our hosts!
The bedroom was delightfully presented. A modern four poster bed with a matt black frame matching the floor. The brilliant white bed linens provide superb contrast. The bathroom consisted of dual sinks, a large bath and shower cabinet. All of which was beautifully appointed. This is superior in every respect to similarly rated and priced hotels around Marbella.
The Restaurants
With some work to do before retiring for the evening, John and I set up our laptops in the Hoyo 19 Bar and Restaurant, an informal eatery with a terrace and cracking views over the 18th green and fairway. The service was first class, attentive without being intrusive. We ordered from the light menu, the food was superbly presented, deeply satisfying and very generous in quantity.
There are three other restaurants on site to choose from offering different styles of cuisine and setting. I am sorry that we did not stay longer and sample them all!
La Atalaya Restaurant enjoys a poolside setting with great views across the lagoon. The cuisine is Mediterranean with some of the produce being grown within the Hotel gardens!
Los Acebuches Restaurant is a buffet restaurant where breakfast and dinner can be enjoyed. The breakfast buffet was sumptuous. The range of choice was vast, all tastes and dietary needs will be well met. A small breakfast to start your day is going to require a great deal of self discipline! I was in need of strength for my upcoming tee time so I focussed on the eggs, sausages and bacon – first class!
The Mar de Campo Restaurant is a fine dining restaurant and is regarded as the finest restaurant in Benalup. The menu presents opulent fayre designed to satisfy the discerning palate. The views across La Janda Valley are mesmerising and add to the experience
The Spa
The Aquamedic Pool is the star of the show. Different zones of the pool offer different hydromassage zones, jet streams and bubbles! This is a perfect way to knead stiff backs, tired legs etc after playing the golf course. In fact if you are playing multiple days of golf I would suggest that an evening Spa session is imperative to keep you in pristine shape ready for the next round!
Various treatments are available for those that enjoy pampering and beautification. Interestingly all of the Spa treatments can be purchased as gifts – an excellent idea!
Final Thoughts
My impressions are extremely positive. The hotel infrastructure is 5 star, the team is 5 star and the accommodation is 5 star. I am only sorry that our stay is for one night.
The Fairplay Golf and Spa Resort is not a city centre venue, it is not somewhere where you dump your bags and head off to see the sights. This is a Spa resort where all of the pleasure comes from being in the property. Whether like us you fancy an intense week of golf and training utilising the gym and Spa, or, like many other guests, if your aim is to relax, disconnect and take a few days to regenerate the Fairplay Golf and Spa Resort is a great venue. Elegant, serene, peaceful, cosseting and great fun.
